Beyond the Classroom
Experiential Education
Our students reach a deeper appreciation of themselves, others, and their environment through experiential education trips and projects. Each excursion marks a milestone in a student’s time at the Academy — from their first overnight as sixth graders to the ninth-grade expedition and senior retreat. As they face new and unexpected situations each year, our students gain confidence in their ability to conquer challenges.
Clubs
Because our students and teachers have insatiable interest in so many different things, we offer more than 80 student clubs each year. Clubs are offered before and after school, as well as scheduled club time during the school day.
Athletics
The athletic program at Albuquerque Academy offers interscholastic competition for students in grades 7 through 12. The level of participation is appropriate to the students’ age, development, ability, and interest. Academy Athletics is proud to offer 19 varsity teams, most of which have junior varsity and middle school counterparts. All middle school teams and some high school teams are “no cut,” meaning any student who wants to be part of a team has that chance.
Foreign Exchange Program
Albuquerque Academy offers two exchange programs, the Global Languages Exchange Program and Academic Exchanges, which provide students with the opportunity to experience foreign cultures as an exchange student or as a host to a visiting student.
Senior Projects
Seniors learn first-hand about a profession or topic that interests them, planning and arranging their own active learning experience outside of traditional classes. Projects require the submission of proposals, demonstrations of learning, and self evaluations.
